5 Incredible Female Inventors Who Revolutionized Cleaning Products

1. Josephine Cochran – Inventor of the Dishwasher

Anna Bissell co-founded Bissell Inc., a company that specializes in cleaning products. Her husband, Melville Bissell, invented the first carpet sweeper in 1876, but Anna helped turn the invention into a successful business. She took on the role of salesperson, demonstrating the sweeper at trade shows and convincing retailers to stock the product. Anna was also responsible for developing new products and was instrumental in the company’s success.

3. Joy Mangano – Inventor of the Miracle Mop

Joy Mangano is a successful entrepreneur and inventor known for inventing the Miracle Mop. She created the Miracle Mop to make cleaning floors easier and more efficient, and QVC quickly made it a best-seller. Joy founded her company, Ingenious Designs, which has developed various innovative products.

4. Stephanie Kwolek –  Inventor of Kevlar

Stephanie Kwolek was a chemist at DuPont who invented Kevlar, a synthetic fiber that is five times stronger than steel. Kevlar is used in various applications, including cleaning gloves that protect hands from harsh chemicals. As a result, Stephanie was awarded over 17 patents during her career, and in 1995 she became the fourth woman to be inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame.

5. Sarah Breedlove Walker – Founder of Madame C.J. Walker Manufacturing Company

Sarah Breedlove Walker, also known as Madame C.J. Walker, was an African American entrepreneur who became one of the wealthiest women in the early 20th century. She founded the Madame C.J. Walker Manufacturing Company, which produced a line of hair care products for African American women. The company’s products included shampoos, conditioners, and styling products that were designed to promote healthy hair.
