Ashkin Appointed To The Greenbuild Advisory Board For The 2025 Conference
Steve Ashkin, a leading sustainability advocate in the professional cleaning industry, has been appointed to the Greenbuild Advisory Board for the 2025 conference.
The US Green Building Council, founded in 1993, launched the Greenbuild Conference in 2002 shortly after introducing its LEED Rating System.
“Today, Greenbuild is the world’s premier Green building conference and expo,” according to a press release. “This year, the conference will be held in Los Angeles, where it will continue to focus on buildings that promote occupant health and wellbeing, community engagement, and resilience while minimizing environmental impacts.”
Katie Gillham, Greenbuild’s event director, commented on Ashkin’s selection: “We are impressed by Steve’s commitment and are pleased to welcome him to our advisory board. Greenbuild’s success relies on the innovative ideas and dedicated support of industry leaders like Steve.”
The release added: “Ashkin has pioneered Green Cleaning and corporate sustainability since the early 1990s. His commitment to these causes is exemplified by his long-standing involvement with the US Green Building Council (USGBC). For instance, since 1994, he has served the organization in several ways including:
- Serving on its National Board of Directors;
- Being a key member of the Indoor Environmental Quality and Existing Buildings Core Committee;
- Authoring the cleaning credits in the LEED-EBOM Rating System (Leadership in Environmental Design: Existing Buildings Operations & Maintenance); and,
- Supporting the global cleaning industry by recognizing its important role and demonstrating how LEED can encourage more investment in cleaning services and additional support for frontline workers who provide these essential services.
“In addition to his work with the USGBC, Ashkin is co-chair of the ISSA Sustainability Committee, which boasts over 200 members across 16 countries.”
At Greenbuild 2025, Ashkin said he will spotlight the importance of cleaning and maintaining existing buildings through educational sessions, tours, and presentations.
“While the USGBC has masterfully transformed new building construction, our current imperative is to drive meaningful improvements in the operations and maintenance of millions of existing buildings around the world,” Ashkin said.
