Cleaning for a Reason, a nonprofit organization, embodies the spirit of being a good neighbor. They collaborate with 1,200 cleaning companies across the United States and Canada to provide free house cleanings to local cancer patients.
“In Lewisville, TX, their dedicated staff and volunteers came together for a yard sale on September 16, raising $1,700. Such heartwarming initiatives are happening nationwide among the nonprofit’s supporters, offering crucial support to cancer patients in their quest for a clean and comfortable home environment. The day’s highlight was the moving encounter with Laura Dawson, a cancer patient who has greatly benefited from Cleaning for a Reason’s program,” according to a press release.
Dawson expressed her gratitude, saying, “A friend arranged everything for me, and I’m forever grateful for the support I received.”
Lucy Lee, Operations Manager at Cleaning for a Reason, sees garage/yard sales as a meaningful way to raise funds while promoting decluttering — an act of “cleaning” in its own right.
Lee added, “Decluttering, organizing, and cleaning may seem separate, but they complement each other. When you combine these activities with a meaningful cause, you inspire one neighbor to support another, nurturing a deep sense of unity and community support. Many thanks to those who generously donated items and/or shopped with enthusiasm, all the while supporting our mission to make a difference for cancer patients through the gift of a clean home.”
Since 2006, Cleaning for a Reason and its partners have donated more than $17 million in services, helping more than 50,000 cancer patients. In 2017, Cleaning for a Reason was adopted by ISSA Charities, the charitable arm of ISSA.
